A rosé blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Vermentino from Cotes de Provence in the South of France. The wine is made in stainless steel. The 2020 Whispering Angel Cotes de Provence Rosé from Caves d'Esclans opens with a pleasing aroma of citrus, peach, watermelon, some red berry fruit and touches of floral notes and salty minerality.
This wine has a lot of hype and I have to say it is indeed pretty tasty stuff. It's super easy to sip but also offers plenty of interesting layers at the same time. It features a smooth and silky mouthfeel plus juicy fruit similar to the nose with some added tart pink grapefruit in the mouth.
It ends with a crisp, dry, lip-smacking finish of lingering fruit plus the return of that hint of salty minerality from the nose. This is very nice.
Rosé wines are normally made from red wine grapes which have minimal contact with the grape skins, which accounts for their signature light red color. Interestingly this wine also consists of Vermentino, which is a white wine grape. The result is a wine that is really almost a bit between a white wine and a rosé
